{"id":3210,"date":"2019-02-27T09:18:57","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T09:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3210"},"modified":"2024-10-20T13:42:23","modified_gmt":"2024-10-20T13:42:23","slug":"iot-sensors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/iot-sensors\/","title":{"rendered":"IoT Sensors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Bluetooth LE provides a compelling way of implementing IoT sensing because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <a aria-label=\"sensors (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/sensor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sensors<\/a> are usually already cased and certified rather than experimentor, bare printed circuit boards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being wireless, they can be placed in remote areas that have no power.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being Bluetooth LE, they can last on battery power for years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Again, being Bluetooth LE, they are <a aria-label=\"suitable for use in noisy electrical areas (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/bluetooth-le-on-the-factory-floor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suitable for use in noisy electrical areas<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are commodity rather than proprietary items and hence very low cost compared to legacy industrial sensors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No soldering or wiring up is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are easy to interface, for example, to <a aria-label=\"Bluetooth gateways (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/Gateways\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bluetooth gateways<\/a> and smartphones.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They can participate in <a aria-label=\"Bluetooth Mesh (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/BluetoothMeshBeacons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bluetooth Mesh<\/a> to communicate over large areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They detect a variety of quantities such as movement (accelerometer), temperature, humidity, air pressure, light and magnetism (hall effect), proximity, heart rate, fall detection, smoke, gas and water leak.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are proven.
