One side is repeatedly sending while the other is listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For social distancing, the beacons advertise AND scan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"330\" height=\"210\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/socialdistancingbeacon.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5053\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/socialdistancingbeacon.png 330w, https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/socialdistancingbeacon-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 330px) 85vw, 330px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Each beacon is repeatedly sending out an id and listening for others. Again, no connection takes place. When beacon receives scan data, it also sees the signal strength which can be used to infer the distance and hence whether the remote beacon is within the social distancing distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beacons can store the id, signal strength and time.
