The cruise market was adversely affected by pandemic and continues to need to be vigilant. Operations on navy and commercial shipping also continue to be affected by on-board outbreaks.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"544\" height=\"343\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/rssicontacttracing.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8724\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/rssicontacttracing.png 544w, https:\/\/www.beaconzone.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/rssicontacttracing-300x189.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 544px) 85vw, 544px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The researchers have devised a system that uses beacons rather than having smartphones detect each another. Mutual smartphone detection is difficult, if not impossible, without using the smartphone contact APIs that are only available to government organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system identifies risky areas in ships based on the location point encounters. It tracks close contacts using Bluetooth and without WiFi or Internet.
