If you want to experiment with Eddystone beacons, a research group at Mozilla has a new Magnet Client Desktop that allows you to configure your desktop to broadcast or scan Bluetooth advertising based on Eddystone URL.
Mozilla’s Project Magnet is:
Your own, personal user agent for the content that is around you. Instead of getting a list of URLs and you having to browse each link to understand how you can interact with the content, Project Magnet will enable you to have an interactive and friction less experience. The experience will always be fully customizable by you, so you can use it for your maximum enjoyment.
The Client Desktop is part of the Magnet project which provides open source programming sources for the Physical Web. There’s a Nearby content discovery client for Android (iOS support coming) built with React-Native and also a Physical Web Web Service.
Mozilla’s experiments have revolved around using the Physical Web to broadcast content related to conference events that included experiments at London All Hands. During the event, they gave out some PC037 beacons supplied by BeaconZone and made a useful video how to configure them:
